Not another folk band...

With the current rise in folk-orientated music, another band have popped up and made some waves in the musical scene under the name of The Lumineers. Originating from Denver, Colorado this three-pieces have brought together simplicity and catchy lyrics to make a great debut album that will get any person tapping their boots!

The band came into the limelight with the single 'Ho Hey' which many of you will recognise automatically as the song from the E.ON advert in the UK, the single came No.1 in the Billboard Alt. Charts which isn't to be sniffed at in this day and age.

The self-titled album has been a big hit digitally and over in America the band have created a huge wave with people sharing their songs all over every social website available, I heard of the band from my other half by text so it isn't really the same.

Their musical style can only be described as simple yet effective as agreed by the one of the vocalists, Jeremiah Fraites, who said "We’re not reinventing the wheel or doing anything that different, the songs are super simple. The ideas themselves are very simple ideas. Anyone who can play an instrument can play a Lumineers song I think there’s a certain cinematic aspect of our music that I really like." You really sense what Fraites is trying to get at in this quote if you listen to the album which certain songs just being a couple of simple chords in it which could easily be played at home by yourself.

However that is the full beauty of it in my eyes, current popular music these days is all about big explosions and over-exaggerative parties and in my eyes that holds no beauty or relevance to my life. The Lumineers make simple, beautiful music with mellow and subtle lyrics that you can relax and fully enjoy and people should start to take notice and respect bands like this. In my opinion any artist can sign a huge DJ to create a catchy nightclub song then hire a team of writers to create catchy lyrics to sell huge numbers of records but it takes a great band to flip that notion on its head by putting a few chords together and writing some wonderful lyrics and The Lumineers do it well.
